Instructions

  • Heat a saucepan with vegan butter or oil. Add the minced onion and saute for ∼3 minutes until translucent. Add the sugar and caramelize the onions for a ∼2 minutes
  • Stir in the tomato purée and flour.
  • Add the balsamic vinegar, wine, and water. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes at medium heat until the gravy has thickened. Add more water if the sauce gets too thick
  • Season it with vegan Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce) and pepper.
  • Blend it until smooth in your food processor, blender, or immersion blender.
  • Serve it warm in a gravy boat.
  • Dou you like your vegan gravy chunky? Serve it without blending.

Notes

  • You can store the sauce up to a few days in your fridge. If you preheat it again, add some water as the sauce starts to thicken in the fridge.
  • Add one tablespoon of jam if you want to give your gravy a sweet touch.
  • I like to add two tablespoons of vinegar, but it gives the sauce a hint sour taste which not everybody likes!
