Watermelon Water, also known as Agua de Sandia, is a very healthy, refreshing, and delicious summer drink. It’s made in 5 minutes with only one ingredient.

Agua de Sandia, how this Mexican watermelon drink is called originally, is an authentic Mexican recipe. All you need for it is a sweet watermelon, a food processor, and some ice.

The preparation is super simple, and you can make it in only a few minutes. Perfect if you are longing for a healthy yet sweet ice cold summer drink!

As fresh watermelon contains already a lot of fruit sugar and therefore is super sweet, you don’t need to add sugar to this drink. If you are on a low sugar diet or don’t like sugary drinks, try this one instead of an iced tea.

5. Serve it cold over ice.

→ You can store it in your fridge for up to two days.

It’s optional to sieve the watermelon drink, but it makes it smoother and in my opinion a lot tastier this way. Some recipes also call to blend it with water to achieve a similar smooth effect. It’s up to you if you want to do this extra step or not!

As you are going to sieve the watermelon agua fresca, it doesn’t matter if you use a seedless watermelon or one with seeds.

How to serve Agua de Sandia

It’s best if you serve this refreshing drink over ice! If you have guests and want to pimp it up a little bit, decorate it with mint leaves and lime wedges.

How To Chop Watermelon

The easiest way to chop a watermelon is if you first cut it in half. Use a large sharp knife (I love using a serrated knife for that). Cut each half in halves again. You can now cut the watermelon quarters in wedges and carefully chop into chunks. Use a smaller knife or spoon to scratch all the flesh from the skin.

Watermelon Agua Fresca

Agua Frescas, one of the most authentic Mexican drinks, are available in many different flavors. Agua de Jamaica (with dried hibiscus flowers) and Agua de Horchata (with rice, cinnamon, and milk) are the most popular ones.

This one made with watermelon is one of the healthiest ones, as it doesn’t contain extra sugar. Most of the Mexican Agua Frescas contain a fair amount of caster sugar.

  1. Taste very good I don’t feel that it needs any sugar added to it with the watermelon being sweet as it is I think it’s worth trying.

    1. I am glad you like it! But please, don’t add sugar. Watermelon is already sweet enough and contains lots of fruit sugar on its own! 😉
